The War of 1812
The War of 1812, often called the Second War for Independence, was fought from 1812-1815. Once again, the U.S. was fighting a war against Great Brittan and Native Americans. The war started because Great Brittan's impressment of British soldiers interfered with American shipping and it provided military aid to Native Americans. The war was fought on land and sea and even lead to the White House being burned down. When the war was over, there was no clear winner. However, the War of 1812 produced intense feelings of patriotism among many Americans for having stood up to the mighty British. The war also broke the power of many Native American groups. Finally, a lack of goods caused by the interruption in trade boosted American manufacturing.
